Moses’ time leading in the desert provides two interesting lessons that leaders can learn from in terms of perspective.
Moses shows us what we as leaders can learn by looking backwards and forwards.
Moses spent 40 years in the desert.
When God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt…He called Moses to lead them through a desert.
God called Moses to lead his people through the desert for 40 years.
Who better to lead the people through the desert for 40 years than someone who just spent 40 years in the desert?
Moses’ past matters. Looking backwards…he could see that and so can we.
Moses sends 12 spies into the land of Canaan.
Their report…a bad one.
But they make a mistake of perspective.
They looked outside themselves and saw other bigger and stronger than themselves. But, if they had looked farther, they would have seen God’s hand in fulfilling his promises again and again. If they looked farther they would have seen a land flowing with milk and honey.
They looked inside themselves and thought they did not have the strength to overcome these challenges. But if they had looked deeper, they would have realized that they could rely on God’s strength.
Today, with Christ we can look farther; past the challenges we see around us to God’s provision and answered promises in our lives and the grand arc of history.
Today, with Christ we can look deeper, past our doubts of strength, ability, knowledge, etc., deeper to the Holy Spirit within us.
