The future of the multisite church is going to include names of organizations like SpaceX, Sierra Nevada, Orbital Sciences, Virgin Galatic, Blue Origin, NASA, and a host of other private companies and governments that are in a race for space. It seems inevitable that people will be present in various ways on the Moon and Mars. So we should begin planning now for the first multisite church campuses on the Moon and Mars.
But not just the Moon and not just Mars.
Once we break the grip of gravity, we will not want to limit ourselves sole to putting people back into gravity based situations such as the Moon or Mars. While they both have much less gravity than Earthy, they still have gravity that must be overcome again and again which requires an incredible amount of energy to do.
So, while the Moon and Mars are likely destinations, another place people will probably end up is space stations. Once we break the grip of gravity, we won’t want to return to limited gravity places like the Moon or Mars.
There’s going to be a church that’s going to put a pastor on the Moon or Mars or one of these space stations. Somewhere there is a church with a vison for the Gospel big enough to match the vison of the Jeff Bezos’, Elon Musks’, and Sir Richard Branson’s of the world.
I wonder, which church is preparing for that inevitability? Which church is even thinking of this inevitability? Which church is pondering the ideas, innovation, and scenarios under which this would be achieved?
There are hundreds of multi-site churches with thousands of campuses and campus pastors. But which one of these churches is preparing for the day when there are not only Earth based churches and campuses, but will they have interplanetary locations?
What sorts of benefits in thinking, innovation, stretching, imagination will that church reap because they had a galactic sized Gospel vision?
